Started in December 2005, Yahoo Answers is a online community and social networking website. that allows anyone to ask, and answer questions on a variety of subjects. Some categories include Travel, Pregnancy and Parenting, Science and Mathematics, Health, Dining Out, Cars and Transportation, and many more. These broad categories are further broken down into sub categories such as Men's Health, General Health, Women's Health, Diet and Fitness, Diseases and Conditions, and many more.
There are other websites that can answer any number of questions. Many of those websites, however, lack the sometimes almost instant interactions that can be found between members of the Yahoo Answers community. No matter what the time of day or night, there will likely be another person at the site to interact with in an intellectually stimulating manner.
Each answer is awarded points, and the website keeps track of each user's points. There are also different levels. Everyone starts off at level one. With the acquisition of more points, users then move up the levels. A leader board featuring those prolific people with the highest levels.
Yahoo Answers has sites in twenty six countries including South Korea, Spain, Hong Kong, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, the United States, and Australia to name just a few. Due to the large number of Yahoo Answers sites, it is almost impossible to guess how many questions, and answers, reside on the various Yahoo Answers sites.
In addition to asking, and answering, a myriad of questions, users can also use the powerful search engine to find questions that are now Resolved. Resolved questions are those questions that have been answered satisfactorily according to the Yahoo Answers community at large.
Like any good communality, Yahoo Answers expects its users to follow some basic rules such as not ranting, venting, or using hate speech, not to act maliciously or in a harmful way, not to be mean or obscene, and a number of other activities that are stringently discouraged on the website. These rules are spelled out for users on the expansive About Answers page.
In addition, Yahoo Answers want its community members to be courteous, cite any sources for the answers given, ask clear and concise questions that are placed in the correct category, be a good citizen, as well as a few other guidelines on how to be a viable member of the Yahoo Answers community.
Anyone can ask and answer questions on Yahoo Answers. However, in order to do so, a Yahoo account must be created. The creation of a Yahoo account allows users to access a free Yahoo email client, access to Yahoo's popular instant messaging platform, and a host of other services. Once an account is created, there are tabs labeled My Activity that help to track each user's statics on the site. Reading posts, however, does not require registration or an account. Using the Yahoo Answers search engine in order to find previous answers to questions asked does not require registration either.
Yahoo Answers is a free question and answer portal. There are some ads, but the website is far from ad heavy.
Yahoo! Answers is recommended to people looking for an answer to a question they can't find anywhere else.
